The Office star for Captain America

captain_america1

Director Joe Johnston (The Wolfman) recently revealed that he has until March 1st to choose the lead actor for the “First Avenger: Captain America” movie. He currently has a wishlist consisting of six names, and thanks to the always reliable Deadline (confirmed by THR), we now have that wishlist here for you.

At this point, the six contenders are: Chace Crawford (“Gossip Girl”), John Krasinski (“The Office”), Scott Porter (“Friday Night Lights”), Mike Vogel (Coverfield), Michael Cassidy (“Privileged”), and Patrick Flueger (Brothers).

The site adds that Johnsotn has also been looking at Garret Hedlund (Tron Legacy), but the actor has yet to test for the role.

The reason why Marvel is looking for unknowns is to keep the budget low. The chosen actor is said to get only $300,000 for the “Captain America” film and will be asked to sign for another nine options for future films, sequels and spin-offs.
