Tony Scott to Direct Shia LaBeouf in John Grisham’s “The Associate”

LA Times is reporting that Tony Scott (True Romance, Top Gun) is in talks to direct a film based on John Grisham’s “The Associate.” William Monahan (The Departed) wrote the script.
“The Associate” is a conspiracy thriller about a young lawyer blackmailed into taking a job at a high-profile firm to pass along secrets to a shady defense contractor. Shia LaBeouf is starring as the young lawyer.
While Paramount Pictures would love to hand Scott a huge budget, the filmmaker has been trouble delivering high-grossing films. The last movie that broke the $100 million mark was “Enemy of the State” back in 1998. Same goes for Grisham movies. While he’s had some success in the mid-1990s, he hasn’t had a legal thriller crack the $50 million mark since “A Time to Kill” did in 1996.
