God of War III – Review

I watch the trailer for this a few ago, and my reaction was HOLY SHIT! Can’t wait to play that!

Infact it was this clip…the game is over 18′s so we must insist, you don’t get caught watching this

How awesome was that? The game play is pretty much the exact same as what you’ve just seen.

So briefly, GOW III follows on immediately from GOW II. Didn’t play it? Doesn’t matter. You play Kratos, a spartan warrior with Godly Powers. Kratos’s father happens to be Zeus, who also happens to kill him at the start of GOW II. Since then Kratos has spent every minute trying to get his revenge.

You spend the game trying to get to Zeus, but meet various other Gods and mythical opponents who try to stand in your way. The majority of the game is you gruesomely killing these opponents. Some of the finishing scenes are beyond description, making you wonder who actually thought them up. However, certain deaths scenes are deeply satisfying. Ha.

There are small sections where you need to solve puzzles, which, can slow things down when you’re just getting into your stride, but a break from killing for 10 minutes is probably necessary.

The greatest attribute though would defiantly be the visuals. Absolutly amazing graphics in this game. The way the camera zooms in and out to show the scale is brilliant. I was really continuing playing just to see what the next scene was like!

Like: Over the top kill sequences. Graphics. Easy game play. Even if you havn’t played the game before you can still follow the story.

Dislikes: The game preempts how to kill your opponents. You only have one way of finishing the bosses.

Rating: 8 / 10

JONNY’S TAKE:

In every sense of the word God of War 3 is epic. Epic characters, epic backgrounds, epic storyline and epic death sequences! It’s a gorefest slash-em-up that rarely pauses for breath and continues in the strain of the previous two releases which came out on the ps2 platform, so didn’t benefit from HD graphics. What I love most about this game is detail put into the environments and how the cinematic camera moves around them. Instead of allowing the character to look 360 degrees, the camera follows you and shows you what you need to see. It can be a little confusing at first, but after a while you can see why the game is designed that way – the game is filled with spectacular visuals and animations and the developers don’t want you to miss them. From the ascent of Mount Olympus to the depths of Hades, the rendition of worlds inspired by Greek mythology would give any history student a semi. The Junior Cert should use this game as reference material.

In terms of gameplay. the actual pushing of buttons can be repetitive, but the wide range of enemies from minotaurs to Zeus himself keep the action white hot.

8/10
