My new smile blog – entry 1

So this is really happening. What started as a niggling worry that my once straight teeth were beginning to overcrowd and a hankering for the Cheryl Cole smile has now become an incredible offer from Dental Options and that famous smile might just be a reality. In return for letting you all know how I get on with Invisalign, Dr. Barry Buckley has agreed to give me the treatment – so far, so great!

I originally called out for a consultation, as not all teeth are compatible with the treatment, but I got the thumbs up and now I’m back in the surgery in Clane for some photos and impressions.

These are not the kind of photos I’ll be putting up on facebook. Barry puts in one of those weird contraptions that hold your lips out so he can photograph your teeth from all angles. I look like some kind of piranha but he’s the snapper, working away like he’s David Bailey!

The technology in Invisalign is fantastic, the photos are brought up on screen and shows me where the overcrowding is occurring and the areas the braces will work on. Then it’s time to take impressions or a mould of my top and bottom set of teeth.

This is done by biting into a gum shield of a play doh type sustance. I make it sound weird but to be honest you’re just lying there in the fancy leather chair and Barry and the nurse are doing all the work, it’s entirely pain free and over in a jiffy. Before I know it, I’m on my way home again with a promise that I will be called in about 3 weeks when Invisalign in the U.S. have analysed my moulds and devised my specific programme. It’s like haute couture teeth straightening!
