About The Cast

Roe McDermott

SWF seeks arrogant, leather-jacket wearing male for…Oops, sorry, wrong blurb.

Roe isn’t Roe McDermott’s real name, & we don’t know what’s up with that. It’s entirely possible that she’s a Russian spy. (In Soviet Russia, Spin 103.8 listens to YOU.)

Showing great financial prowess, Roe took a degree in English & Philosophy immediately preceeding the recession, safe in the knowledge that analyzing the Descartian undertones of Alice in Wonderland  is always a big earner. She then took an M.A. in Journalism & realizing that you can legitimately and indefinitely avoid the real world in the name of education, applied to do another M.A. (in Women’s Studies, careful there boys.)

However, her plans were foiled (dammit, Igor unt zee udder agents vill not be happy) when she took an internship in Hot Press & just couldn’t bring herself to leave (neither could security – trust us, they tried.) She also refused to leave the tree outside of Gordon Hayden’s bedroom until he let her on We Love Movies, which he thankfully did (albeit after many, many nights of “coincidentally” working out topless in front of the window.)  So she now spends her time watching movies, telling you what to think (it’s for your own good, honestly – she warps your minds because she cares) & turning up at least half an hour late to every We Love Movies session & telling Gordon not to shout at her, it wasn’t her fault, there was a kitten stuck in a tree & it had a cold & she was the only one with Kleenex & then she had to bring it to the orphanage to cheer up the poor, dying children… again.

She likes brackets, ellipses & ampersands.

She does not like Pina Coladas, & getting caught in the rain makes her look like a racoon.

Fave Films (which is in no way binding or in fact representative of Roe’s eclectic tastes at all, but merely an extremely limiting list imposed upon her by the producer Sue Murphy under threats of extreme violence.)

  1. His Girl Friday
  2. Before Sunset
  3. Mulholland Drive
  4. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
  5. Up in the Air

Sarina Bellissimo -

Sarina Bellissimo was born and bred in Melbourne, Australia to an Italian father and Greek mother. Her mum used to force her to watch Elvis Presley films with her, and both her mum & dad would take her and her brothers to the Drive-In to watch the latest films (this is where her love for ROCKY began!).

Love brought Sarina to Ireland in 2006 and in 2007 she started as a regular contributor to We Love Movies. This means that she gets to watch movies, talk about them and even interview some of her screen idols. Sarina has interviewed the likes of Robert Pattinson, Ryan Reynolds, Daniel Craig, Uma Thurman, Colin Farrell, Cameron Diaz, and U2, to name but a few. She’s also reported from many red carpets such as the IFTAs and the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival. One of her favourite interviews for We Love Movies was the one where she ended up sitting on Ashton Kutcher’s lap! Interviewing Sylvester Stallone would be a dream come true for her.

Sarina also appears regularly on Plan B to talk movies with Michelle Beatty as well as regularly contributing to Moncrieff’s Movies and Booze segment on Newstalk 106-108. Sarina co-presented channel 6’s (now 3e) movie show Take Six and has appeared on Ireland AM’s Movie & I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here segments.

By the way, Sarina is petrified of horror movies and refuses to watch them– unless Gordon makes her!

Top 5 Films

(Disclaimer: These are subject to change, depending on what mood she’s in on any given day. There are lots of 80s films that haven’t made the list today – especially John Hughes films!)

  1. Rocky Franchise (I know this isn’t one film but I couldn’t pick just one!)
  2. ET
  3. Grease
  4. The Castle (a fantastic Aussie classic)
  5. Dead Poet’s Society

Sue Murphy

Sue grew up in the Wild West.  Literally.  Due to the fact that there was nothing to do for at least eight hours a day as her family lived thirteen miles from the nearest town, Sue began to watch everything she could get her hands on.  This did not include children’s classics such as The Goonies and at a later stage, The Breakfast Club.  Rather, at the age of 10 Sue had seen most classics like Bridge over the River Kwai (she didn’t get the end at the time), Gone with the Wind (she was devastated when she found out Clark Gable was in fact NEVER coming back) and Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? (this was obviously how female friends were supposed to act).

Sue began working on Girls Talk Back on Dublin City Fm and following a couple of weeks there, was asked to do a demo for We Love Movies where she reviewed the modern cult classic, The Back- Up Plan.  Things snowballed from there, Sue became a regular contributor at Spin 1038 and then for Spin Cinema for Spin South West, which she occasionally presents.  Fortnightly, she reviews for Moncrieff’s Movies and Booze on Newstalk, for what she describes as the day out, “they let me taste drinks and talk about movies, what’s not to like?”  Sue has also completely invaded Gordon Hayden’s life as Producer for We Love Movies and Researcher for TV3’s Uploaded.  She also rambles and rants on culch.ie and the Galway Film Centre.

Random fact: Possesses a degree in History, a Masters in Classics, a Masters in Film Theory and a Diploma in Sound Engineering. Why you ask? God knows.
