It turns out Barry initially wanted to play Riddler, so he took the initiative and put together an audition tape.
The clip was shared online, but not many people know about it.
He met the film's producer Dylan Clark, and found out the role had already been filled.
However, he asked Dylan to watch his audition tape anyway.
There was no response for four months, until one day he got a call from his agent while he was in New York, telling him they wanted him to play the Joker.
'The Batman wants you to play the Joker – but you cannot tell anyone.'

Barry only appeared on screen as the Joker for four minutes in a post credits scene.
But fans of the franchise absolutely loved his version, and he made sure the director Matt Reeves knew this.
He told GQ about an article that featured him as the fourth best on-screen Joker, and said he sent it to Reeves.
