Ed Sheeran facing trial
Despite his efforts to have a copyright case against him thrown out, Ed Sheeran will have to face a jury trial.
It's over whether he stole key pieces of his song Thinking Out Loud from Marvin Gaye‘s Let’s Get It On.
Those bringing the copyright claims own a partial stake in Gaye's hit song, which came out in 1973.
According to Variety, they're looking for $100m in damages from Ed.
The pop-stars attorney argued the elements Ed's been accused of stealing are, 'commonplace,' and a copyright claim is unwarranted.

Despite his attempts to have the case thrown out, Ed will have to appear in front of a Manhattan federal jury.
It's after Judge Louis Stanton ruled there was, 'no bright-line rule,' for his attorneys' argument.
This comes six months after Ed won a high court copyright trial for his song Shape Of You.

At the time, he released a video statement saying there are, "only so many notes and very few chords used in pop music and coincidence is bound to happen."
"I’m not an entity. I’m not a corporation. I’m a human being. I’m a father. I’m a husband and a son."
