Things just keep getting better and better for Ed Sheeran.
According to Billboard, Ed is has been announced as the recipient of the Songwriters Hall of Fame's 2017 Hal David Starlight Award.
He will be presented with the honorary award on June 15th in New York at the 48th Annual Induction for the awards.
The award was created in 2004 as a way of honoring successful songwriters in the music industry, who make a significant impact with original compositions. Some of the previous recipients include - Nick Jonas, Alicia Keys, Taylor Swift, John Legend and Jason Mraz.
The co-chairs of the Songwriters Hall of Fame Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff released a statement saying 'Ed Sheeran has accomplished so much in pop music that it is hard to believe he is only 26. He is not an overnight sensation, however, having immersed himself in songwriting, recording and performing since his early teens. His natural talent as a singer, songwriter, guitarist and producer has brought him well-deserved success.'
This award comes as no surprise, as Ed is pretty much dominating the music world at the moment. He's sold more than 26 million albums worldwide - that's a million albums for every year of his life to date. He had 5 billion streams on Spotify with his third album 'Divide' and that album sold over 4 million copies in it's first week of release.
Now, that's impressive.
Ed Sheeran takes his 'Divide Tour' to the 3Arena on the 12th and 13th of April this year.
No doubt the venue will be lifted once this is played:
