The 2024 Paris Olympics is kicking off this weekend in Paris, France and here’s everything you need to know ahead of the Olympic Games.
Where and when can we watch?
The Olympics kicks off this Friday, the 26th of July 2024 until Sunday, the 11th of August 2024.
Irish viewers can catch all the excitement of the games unfold and cheer on the Irish over on RTÉ.
RTÉ will serve over 250 hours of live coverage from France across RTÉ2 and the RTÉ Player, with three daily live programmes - on RTÉ Radio 1, RTÉ 2FM and RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta.
The Opening Ceremony
The opening ceremony is taking place on the River Seine at 6.30pm and is due to last for more than three hours.
It will be broadcast live on RTÉ2 with coverage kicking off from 6pm - streaming will also be available on the RTÉ player.
Lady Gaga and Celine Dion are reportedly set to perform after being snapped staying in the same hotel, the Royal Monceau hotel.
The singers are rumoured to perform ‘La Vie en Rose’ together, which will be the first time Celine has performed live since being diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disorder called Stiff-person syndrome back in 2022.
Other artists who are rumored to be performing are Ariana Grande and Dua Lipa.
Snoop Dogg is also set to lend his special “shizzle minizzle” before the opening ceremony.
The rapper is set to carry the Olympic torch and he will also be a special correspondent for American network NBC.
The Irish Team
Paris 2024 will see the largest Irish team yet to travel to the Olympics, with 133 athletes competing across different categories of sport than ever before.
Some of Ireland’s top medal prospects include: sprinter Rhasidat Adeleke, boxing champion Kellie Harrington and gymnast Rhys McClenaghan who are all looking to bring home a gold medal in their sport.
Sarah Lavin and Shane Lowry will be the two flag bearers for Team Ireland.

The Olympic Games will end on the 11th of August with a ceremony at the famous Stade de France in Saint-Denis.
