What Kim Cattrall really thinks
Kim Cattrall, who played Samantha in Sex and the City, is finally sharing her thoughts on the franchise's revival.
In a new interview with Variety, she spoke about the direction they took her character in, how the series is basically the third movie which fell through, and much more.
Kim revealed she actually wasn't approached to return for the franchise's revival.
She explained, "I made my feelings clear after the possible third movie, so I found out about it like everyone else did — on social media."
The actress didn't like the script for the third movie, so she turned it down.

Now, since the release of the series revival, she's learned it's basically a reiteration of the scrapped film.
"The series is basically the third movie. That’s how creative it was," she told Variety.
Kim said she would have preferred there to be some sort of event that warranted a third film.
Moving on
But even in saying that, she was ready to wrap up the franchise.
"And this is exactly what I wished for: to be in different places playing different characters because I’m a character actress."
"And as difficult as it was, and as scary as it is to stand up and not be bullied by the press or the fans or whomever — to just say, I’m good. I’m on this track. It was so great working with you. I so enjoyed it, but I’m over here."

Kim was asked if she's watched the revival, and she responded, "I certainly heard about it."
"And I’ve come to the conclusion that really the greatest compliment I could have as an actor is to be missed."
The Variety reporter also asked Kim's opinion of the AJLT storyline in which Carrie and Samantha had a fight after Carrie fired her as her publicist.
She replied, "Oh yes. I heard this. Well, that feels different than the Samantha that I played."
Kim admits it's, "odd," to see them continue her character without her.
"I don’t know how to feel about it. It’s so finite for me, so it doesn’t continue."

"I think I would ponder it more if I didn’t have something like Queer as Folk or How I Met Your Father."
They're two shows Kim is currently starring in.
"That’s kind of where I’m centered around. This feels like an echo of the past."

Kim continued, "Other than the really wonderful feeling of — it’s rare in my business — people wanting more, especially at 65."
"That feels powerful, that I’ve left something behind that I’m so proud of. I loved her. I loved her so, so, so much. It’s tough competition."
"The original show is in all of our imaginations." She said the decision to walk away, "feels clean."
Kim added, "I don’t ever want to be on a set and not want to be there."
