This is the second tragedy to hit the Tomlinson family in recent years.
His mother Joannah died in 2016 after a battle with leukemia.
Louis released a song about his mother last month called Two of Us.
He talked about the song in an interview with Radio 1 Newsbeat in March.
"I used to lean on my mum for a lot of things."
"Anytime I needed advice on something she would be the first call I made."
Stars have been reaching out to the singer on social media.
