Movie producers didn't like Margot Robbie's accent

Australian actress Margot Robbie opens up about the beginning of her career in film in a new interview this week.

The star reveals she had to hire a dialect coach to help refine her thick accent for movie roles.

'I'm from Queensland, so it was strong. Producers didn't like it.'

Margot opens up during her interview for the cover of Vogue Australia's September issue.

One of her first TV roles was in Australian show Neighbours.

She played Donna Freedman in the series for three years before she moved to LA in 2011.

The 29-year-old says, 'When I was on Neighbours they hired a dialect coach to make me sound less Australian...'

'Even though I was still playing an Australian character.'

This isn't the first time the actress has spoken out about her thick accent.

Just last year Margot told News.com.au that she was told to 'tone it down' when she first began acting.

From working with a dialect coach and having appeared in numerous features, Margot says her accent is much more 'refined' now.

'It did help that I lived with a lot of English people, so it is more diluted than it used to be.'

'My husband [film producer Tom Ackerley] is English and we live in America.'
