This is incredibly exciting!
George RR Martin has been chatting about the upcoming Game of Thrones spin-offs.
He's revealed that while the main series will end after its eighth series, there will be a number of spin-offs that will keep the franchise going once the main story comes to a halt.
In a blog post on Live Journal, Martin has said 'We had four scripts in development when I arrived in LA last week, but by the time I left we had five. We have added a fifth writer to the original four.
'Every one of the concepts under discussion is a prequel, rather than a sequel,” he added. “Some may not even be set on Westeros. Rather than ‘spinoff’ or ‘prequel’, however, I prefer the term ‘successor show’. That’s what I’ve been calling them.'
Martin also said that he doesn't 'like the term spinoff' and doesn't think it 'really applies to these new projects.' To borrow a term from JRR Tolkien, Martin said they'll be new stories that are set in the 'secondary universe.'
