Normal People cast chat filming intimate scenes

Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones open up about what it was like filming such intimate scenes together for Normal People.

They play onscreen lovers Marianne and Connell in the adaptation of Sally Rooney's hit novel.

In a new interview with The Evening Standard, she admitted her boyfriend watched through gritted teeth.

Daisy is currently dating Game of Thrones actor Tom Varey.

She revealed, 'He was gritting his teeth [during the sex scenes] but at least he’s seen it now.'

The actress admitted she's more worried about what her grandparents will say when they see it.

Daisy recalled how Paul struggled to get her bra over her head in their first intimate scene together.

And this moment actually made it into the final cut.

Daisy's favourite scene

She confessed, 'I think that’s my favourite scene in the whole series.'

Daisy admitted the scene itself was just so, 'beautifully shot,' and she was surprised at how, 'unfreaky it was to watch.'

She added, 'I was halfway through watching it back before I realised I wasn’t wearing a top.'

The pair revealed they worked with intimacy director Ita O'Brien to ensure they felt comfortable.

Ita's well known for her work with Netflix's Sex Education cast.

Paul pointed out, 'we just had to get used to it.'

Paul previously told Entertainment Weekly that Ita gave them a, 'sense of security and safety,' regarding the nudity on the show.

Normal People is being praised for its authentic portrayal of intimate scenes.

And the actor admitted this was his director's plan all along, 'It was always Lenny's intention for it to be honest and truthful.'

Meanwhile, fans will be delighted to hear, Paul and Daisy are genuinely really good friends.

She recalled the time she got him in trouble for making her laugh during a scene.

'It became known that around 5pm every day we would get hysterical for no reason.'

A new episode of Normal People will drop every Monday on BBC One.
