Selena Gomez has spoken about the controversy surrounding the Netflix '13 Reasons Why'.
Selena was an executive producer on the show, which centres around the suicide of a girl named Hannah Baker.
The show has received mixed praise for the content contained within the series, which looks at other issues such as sexual assault, self-harm and cyberbullying.
However, in an interview with the Associated Press, Selena maintains she always expected a backlash.
"We stayed very true to the book, and that's initially what Jay Asher created, a beautifully tragic yet complicated and suspenseful story.
"It's a not an easy subject but I'm very fortunate with how it's doing and I'm overwhelmed and very proud of it."
