Tom Cruise addresses that scathing on-set rant
An audio clip of Tom Cruise yelling at the Mission Impossible staff and crew was shared online last year.
The actor finally addressed it in an interview with Empire Magazine this week.
As per the L.A. Times, he defended his actions, 'I said what I said.'
He also set the record straight, and revealed he wasn't shouting at the entire crew, but rather a select few.
The actor had asked the rest of the team to leave while he spoke with those breaking COVID-19 safety protocols.
'There was a lot at stake at that point,' he insisted.
Production on the movie had been halted twice previously, and Tom couldn't risk it happening again.
He recalled, 'All those emotions were going through my mind.'
'I was thinking about the people I work with and my industry.'
'And for the whole crew to know that we’d started rolling on a movie was just a huge relief.'
Tom added, 'It was very emotional, I gotta tell you.'
Tom's rant
The audio clip divided the internet with some backing Tom, and others criticisng his actions.
In the recording, he's heard yelling, "I’m on the phone with every fu**ing studio at night, insurance companies, producers and they’re looking at us and using us to make their movies."
"We are creating thousands of jobs, you motherfu**ers."
Tom continued, "You can tell it to the people who are losing their fu**ing homes because our industry is shut down."
"It’s not going to put food on their table or pay for their college education."
"That’s what I sleep with every night – the future of this fu**ing industry!"
"So I’m sorry, I am beyond your apologies."
"I have told you, and now I want it, and if you don’t do it, you’re out."
"We are not shutting this fu**ing movie down! Is it understood? If I see it again, you’re fu**ing gone."
Celebrities including George Clooney and Josh Gad spoke out in support of the actor.
