It's been nearly two years since True Detective left our screens after a less successful second series and an undecided fate but now it looks like we may be getting a third installment after all.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly creator Nic Pizzolatto revealed that he has written, "at least the first two episodes for a potential third series."
HBO, the channel funding the project, has brought Deadwood producer David Milch on board to work with Pizzolatto in getting the show back to the standard of the critically acclaimed first series.
Whether season three will return to fan favourites Rust Cohle and Marty Hart or embark on a new story althogether remains to be seen however, Matthew McConaughey has previously said that he "wouldn't hesitate for a second" if the opportunity came up again.
Season 3 has yet to get the official green light but it's a move in the right direction for fans of the franchise. Here's hoping we get to see that iconic McConaughey/Harrelson duo on our TVs one more time.
