Olivia Jade speaks out
Olivia Jade broke her silence for the first time on last night's Red Table Talk.
Her parents Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli are currently serving time in prison.
They were among dozens charged for bribing and cheating to get their children into top universities.
As quoted by E! News, 'They pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges in May in connection with securing the fraudulent admission of their daughters to the University of Southern California.'
The couple have two children together: 21-year-old Olivia Jade and 22-year-old Bella.
Olivia Jade was a very successful social media influencer with major brand deals.
Her whole world came crashing down during her freshman year at the university, when her parents were arrested.
She was fired from brands, vilified online and was forced to remove herself from the public eye.
Sentences
Loughlin was sentenced to two months in prison.
And when she gets out, she'll have to undergo two years of supervised release and 100 hours of community service.
She was also fined $150,000.
Meanwhile, Giannulli was sentenced to five months in prison, two years of supervised release and 250 hours of community service.
He was also fined $250,000.
Red Table Talk
At the beginning of the episode, co-host Adrienne Banfield-Norris revealed she was opposed to having Olivia Jade on the show.
She admitted, "I fought it tooth and nail."
Adrienne explained why, "I just found it really ironic that she chose three black women to reach out to for her redemption story."
"I feel like here we are, [a] white woman coming to black women for support when we don't get the same from them."
Adrienne added, "Her being here is the epitome of white privilege to me."
Her daughter, Jada Pinkett Smith responded, "I understand where you’re coming from but let me just be clear: I never want to be the thing that was done to me by white women."
They began their conversation with Olivia Jade by asking how she's getting on since her parents left.
She replied, "It's been hard."
The moment her parents left
Olivia Jade added, "I think for anybody, no matter what the situation is, you don't wanna see your parents go to prison."
"But also I think it's necessary for us to move on and move forward."
The social media star went on to say, "There is no justifying or excusing what happened."
"'Cause what happened was wrong."
"And I think every single person in my family can be like that was messed up, that was a big mistake."
Olivia Jade said she wants to, "learn from the mistake, not be shamed and punished and never given a second chance."
She revealed she hasn't spoken to her parents since they left for prison.
The influencer explained, "There's a quarantine phase, just because of COVID so I think that is the reason..."
"I just haven't heard anything so I'm just waiting."
The moment she found out
Jada asked Olivia Jade about the moment she found out her parents had been arrested.
She said she remembers getting a call from someone asking her if she had spoken to her mother recently.
Olivia Jade was on spring break at the time with some friends.
The 21-year-old immediately searched her mother's name when she hung up the phone.
"It's everywhere. And I was sitting with a group of friends and I knew any second that everyone was gonna know too."
"If they didn't already," she said.
"I remember just like freezing and feeling so ashamed, I went home and hid myself for three or four months."
Olivia Jade revealed she never went back to school after that.
She admitted, "I was too embarrassed."
"I shouldn't have been there in the first place clearly so there was no point in me trying to go back."
Later in the episode, Adrienne asked her, "Do you have any understanding of why I would be upset at your being here and what you all did and the harm that it caused?"
