Zach Braff and his relationship
Zach Braff and his girlfriend Florence Pugh are constantly facing criticism over their relationship.
Many feel the 45-year-old Scrubs star is far too old to be dating the 24-year-old Black Widow actress.
In April, she addressed the criticism in a video, but he stayed quiet.
Zach explains why in a new interview.
Florence and Zach have been dating for about a year now.
Over summer, she took to social media to wish him a happy 45th birthday.
What should have been a positive post, turned negative very fast.
The backlash was so extreme, that the actress was forced to turn off comments.
Florence had had enough.
So she posted a video on Instagram addressing the trolls who left, "horrid," messages under the post.
Zach however, stayed quiet on the issue.
When asked about it in an interview with Mr Porter, he explained, 'She literally sat down, hit record on her phone and said that.'
'I thought: how could I possibly follow anything as intelligent and articulate as that? So, I chose not to.'
What Florence said
In her video, Florence said, "It is the first time in my entire Instagram life that I've had to turn off the comments on my page."
"I have never been an Instagram page that encourages that."
"I have never been an Instagram page that likes that toxic vibe."
The actress pointed out, "I'm 24 years old, I have been working since I was 17-years-old."
"I have been earning money since I was 17-years-old, I became an adult when I was 18-years-old."
"And I started paying taxes when I was 18-years-old, I underline this fact, I am 24-years-old."
The Fighting with My Family star went on to make a very powerful statement.
She said, "I do not need you tell me who I should and should not love and I would never in my life ever tell anyone who they can and cannot love."
"It is not your place, and really it has nothing to do with you..."
The solution
Florence asked those unwilling to be kind, to simply un-follow her.
"Because the abuse you throw at him is abuse you're throwing at me and I don't want those followers."
"And I don't want to have to be protecting my comments every time I post a picture of him," she said.
She went on, "I really hope that I can continue this relationship with a lot of you..."
Florence said she hopes she can, "keep on cooking... keep on dancing," and, "keep on singing," with her fans.
