We know what you're thinking. A vegan chicken shop? How is that possible?

wtf confused orange is the new black red nose red nose day 2015

Temple of Seitan opened in Hackney, London in January and since its launch, it has received some serious attention from vegans, vegetarians, and those who fancy an alternative meal from their usual meat and veg. Its aim was to allow those who don't eat meat, to experience those takeaway gems like popcorn chicken, chicken mac 'n' cheese and burgers.

But how can they offer those on the menu, call it chicken and claim for it to be vegan friendly?

That's where the ingredient seitan comes in. Seitan comes from the protein that is found in wheat gluten. Many veggies know it as 'wheat meat.'

It is made with gluten flour, water and seasoning, allowing vegetarians to experience the flavour of the meat they're trying to emulate - and they fry it up all crispy.

Today was HUGE. Thanks so much to everyone that came today and for being super patient, there were some long waits and we appreciate all of your support. Secondly and more importantly, thanks to Sean aka @fatgayvegan for putting on one of the most professional, welcoming events we've ever been a part of. The UK is very lucky to have him and his team of hardworking volunteers supporting this ever-growing community and it makes us so proud to be part of it! Can't wait to see you all in January for the big opening! But in the meantime have a safe and happy break 💚🤘🏻 #Repost @applekalepear ・・・ may have waited for an hour in line for @templeofseitan vegan fried 'chicken' and 'bacon' burgers with gravy, 'mayo' and sriracha at the @fatgayvegan christmas market but it was worth it 🎄🎄
