One of the biggest problems we have when getting hair extensions - leaving aside the ten hours it takes to dry your hair after washing, and the constant brushing to avoid unbearable knots - is ensuring that everything looks seamless and natural. Sure, an awful lot of that is down to the skill of the person applying your hair extensions, but everything always looks perfect until you go to wash it yourself, right? This is especially difficult for those of us who get extensions when we’ve been sporting a bob. Getting rid of that one harsh layer is never easy, but here’s what makes it a whole lot better: you need a fudge-like texturising wax or cream (try Unite's Second Day Finishing Cream, below) that’s neither sticky or greasy that you can buff into your hair where your ends meet the extensions and right down to the extensions’ ends too.

The best way to make this work is if you put a wand through your hair first - nothing too perfect, just a tousled look - and then shake your hair upside down whilst teasing through the wax. Be sure to rub it first onto your hands, warming it until the cream disappears (so you’re not left with any visible product in your hair). Then simply massage into the ends so everything goes a little bit boho-like, and you’ll never be able to tell where your hair ends and the extensions begin. This little hero is also great to use around your fringe/front bits, because the consistency won’t make your hair greasy (a problem for, like, every second one of us). For a sleeker, less messy look, you’ll have to ensure that you’re taking small sections of hair through your wand, but make sure you do this in vertical sections as opposed to horizontal sections; this way, you’ll always get some of your own shorter hair in with the longer extensions and the curl will conceal the tips. Try it for yourself!
