Bel-Air

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is being reimagined as a drama called Bel-Air.

Will Smith's Westbrook Studios and Universal TV are producing the series, which was inspired by a fan-made trailer.

The video created by cinematographer Morgan Cooper went viral online last year.

It follows the exact same story line as the original sitcom, but it's much darker.

Will finds himself in a fight with some peers at a basketball court in his West Philadelphia neighbourhood.

The police arrive at the scene when a fight breaks out, only to find a gun in Will's bag.

At home, his heartbroken mother tells him she's, "done [her] best," for him, and now, "it's time for a change."

Bel-Air focuses on the realities of a teen moving to Bel-Air after growing up in West Philadelphia.

Will Smith absolutely loved the trailer, and even appeared in a YouTube video with Morgan to discuss the video.

Morgan explained, "It's a reinterpretation of this incredible story, and bringing it into modern day life in 2019."

And the Fresh Prince actor told him, "That’s an idea that is brilliant."

Who's involved in this new project?

Well, according to Deadline, the incredibly talented cinematographer Morgan Cooper will direct and co-executive produce the show.

He'll work alongside executive producer and showrunner Chris Collins to co-write the series.

Meanwhile, Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith’s Westbrook Studios will work alongside Universal TV to produce the project.

Deadline report the likes of Netflix, Peacock, HBO Max, Amazon and Apple are all interested.

We can't wait to see how this new series turns out!
