Gossip Girl
Writer and producer of the upcoming Gossip Girl reboot, Joshua Safran spills the beans on the upcoming series.
He opens up during an appearance at the Vulture Festival over the weekend.
'This time around the leads are nonwhite.'
Joshua says viewers can expect much more diversity in the new series as opposed to the original.
As per People, he says, 'There was not a lot of representation the first time around on the show.'
'Even when I went to private school in New York in the ‘90s, the school didn’t necessarily reflect what was on Gossip Girl.'
He reveals, 'This time around the leads are nonwhite.'
Joshua points out that he, 'was the only gay writer,' on the original series.
There was only one prominent gay character and that was Eric van der Woodsen.
However, Joshua says we can expect a lot more, 'queer content on this show.'
'It is very much dealing with the way the world looks now...'
'Where wealth and privilege come from, and how you handle that.'
He teases, 'The thing I can’t say is there is a twist, and that all relates to the twist.'
Plot and characters
The Hollywood Reporter provide the log-line for the series:
'Eight years after the original website went dark, a new generation of New York private school teens are introduced to the social surveillance of Gossip Girl.'
'The prestige series will address just how much social media — and the landscape of New York itself — has changed in the intervening years.'
Joshua adds, 'It's just a new look at this particular society in New York, the idea being that society changes constantly.'
'So how has this world changed, how has social media and its effect changed?'

He goes on, 'All of those things allow us to look at the world 12 years on as opposed to just redoing the story.'
'None of us are interested in just redoing a story.'
The question on everyone's mind is will our favourite characters make a return? Well, we genuinely don't know yet.
Safran wouldn't give much away so it looks like we'll have to wait and see.
