It's OFFICIAL!
After all the rumours, John Lithgow has officially signed on to play Dumbledore in the upcoming Harry Potter tv series with HBO!
In an interview, the actor confirmed he is taking on the role of the wise wizard, who was previously played by Michael Gambon and Richard Harris in the original Harry Potter films.
Speaking to ScreenRant, the 79-year-old said: "Well, it came as a total surprise to me."
"I just got the phone call up at the Sundance Film Festival for yet another film, and it was not an easy decision because it’s going to define me for the last chapter of my life, I’m afraid."
"But I’m very excited. Some wonderful people are turning their attention back to Harry Potter. That’s why it’s been such a hard decision. I’ll be about 87 years old at the wrap party, but I’ve said yes," he continued.
John is the first actor to be confirmed for the new Harry Potter series, which is set to premiere in 2026 or 2027, and is expected run for 7 seasons.
