Meryl Streep has reportedly signed up to voice the part of Aslan in Greta Gerwig’s Narnia series for Netflix.

Previously played by Liam Neeson in the 2000s movie franchise based on C.S. Lewis' classic Chronicles of Narnia books, the part is a God-like character in the story offering advice to the characters as they face struggles.

News of Meryl's potential involvement with the project comes as sources also claimed Greta is planning to adapt the sixth novel in the Narnia series, The Magician’s Nephew for her run with Netflix.

The book tells the story of the origin of Narnia and follows Digory Kirke and Polly Plummer, who ultimately discover the magical world through Digory’s uncle’s magic.

Other big names rumoured to be cast in the new adaptation include Daniel Craig and Charli XCX.

It's believed Charli will play the White Witch who was originally portrayed by Tilda Swinton in the 200os films.

Netflix announced it would develop a new series and film projects based on Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia back in 2018.

Greta - of Saltburn and Barbie success - was brought on board two years later in 2020 to adapt and direct the first movie for the streamer.

Before anything hits TVs at home, Greta's version of events will enjoy a two-week Imax global run for Thanksgiving 2026.
