Netflix apologise

Netflix have apologised after they faced backlash for a tweet that went out on the official Chilling Adventures of Sabrina account.

The comment, which caused outrage, made reference to Bloody Sunday.

Pictures of the cast covered in fake blood were posted to the show's Twitter account.

The controversial caption read, 'sunday bloody sunday'

After facing major backlash, the streamer had the tweet removed.

While perhaps inadvertently, the tweet made reference to two of the darkest periods in Irish history.

The first Bloody Sunday took place in 1920 when British forces opened fire on a crowd at a Gaelic football match in Croke Park.

The second took place in Derry in 1972, where members of the Army's Parachute Regiment opened fire on civil rights demonstrators in the Bogside.

Backlash

Many shared their outrage in the comments section of the tweet.

Making reference to the U2 track Sunday Bloody Sunday, one Twitter user wrote, 'Oh, this is bad.'

'Your social media person clearly doesn't know what that song was about…'

The apology

A spokesperson for Netflix released the following apology to Deadline:

'Our tweet was unacceptable and has since been removed.'

'We are very sorry for the hurt and distress it caused.'

No further comment has been made.
