Fans assume Paul Mescal is just like his character Connell
Paul Mescal shot to fame playing Connell Waldron in Normal People, and fans quickly named him a heartthrob.
However, the 24-year-old actor is feeling uncomfortable with some of his newfound attention.
The Kildare native has been receiving DMs from fans who expect him to be just like Connell.
Speaking to The Sun he said: "It was kind of fun at the start — ‘Oh, this is mad, people think that Connell’s sexy’ — and then a weird thing has kind of crept in where, when people DM, there’s this feeling that maybe there’s an anticipation that I’m him.”
Paul said this has made him uncomfortable as he is "totally different".
"I think maybe what’s sexy about Connell is he’s kind of classic back-footed, aloof, smart.
“I’m definitely not back-footed or aloof."
Connell has had such an appeal with fans that even the necklace he wears in the BBC series has it's own huge following.
The chain has been given it's own Twitter emoji, and even raised over €70,000 when auctioned for charity.
