Sean Penn in the Ukraine
Mystic River star Sean Penn is in the Ukraine filming a documentary about Russia's invasion.
According to Variety, Vice Studios confirmed the news.
They're the production company behind the doc, in association with Vice World News and Endeavor Content.
News of Penn's involvement came after he was spotted at a press conference in Kyiv, where government officials spoke about the crisis.
The Office of the President praised Penn in a statement issued through the Ukrainian embassy.
The statement reads: 'The director specially came to Kyiv to record all the events that are currently happening in Ukraine and to tell the world the truth about Russia’s invasion of our country.'
'Sean Penn is among those who support Ukraine in Ukraine today. Our country is grateful to him for such a show of courage and honesty.'
'Sean Penn is demonstrating bravery that many others have been lacking, in particular some Western politicians.'
According to Variety, Penn visited the Ukraine in November last year in preparation for the documentary.
At the time he met with the country’s military.
