Universal Pictures Loses $70 Million from CATS.
There was a lot to be excited for with the announcement of CATS.
The musical fantasy film is based on the stage musical by Andrew Llyod Webber.
The film lined up an all-star cast, including James Corden, Taylor Swift, Jason Derulo, Rebel Wilson - just to name a few.
CATS was released on Friday, 20th December.
However, just over one week on and Universal Pictures is facing a loss of $70 million on the film.
The production of the motion picture cost $100 million and the marketing involved mirrored that same figure.
So far, CATS has earned itself just over $38 million from screenings around the world.

The film was even recalled from theatres for some last minute changes, with a bid to boost the ratings.
However, it still proved unsuccessful.
Wait. They didn’t bother finishing the CGI on Rebel Wilson’s human hand? 💀⚰️⚱️ #Cats pic.twitter.com/u9g5xNA5XM

The best part of our showing of CATS was about 2/3rds of the way through when a man in the audience stood up, said "this movie is bad and I'm leaving", and walked out while everyone applauded him.

I saw a tweet once that said the plot of CATS is essentially a bunch of cats introducing themselves until one of them dies and that’s all I could think about last night as I sat through that bizarre monstrosity 😂#CatsMovie

Universal Pictures are now hoping to move on from the CATastrophe that was CATS, so much that they have even ensured that the film will not campaign for the Academy Awards.
