Dermot Kennedy confirmed he was eyeing up the music charts once more with a third album release that's very much on the way.

The Irish singer-songwriter has been spending time in Nashville, where he wrote and put together his latest body of work that he says he's, "very proud of".

Still needing a title, the upcoming list of songs will follow his previous collections - 2019's Without Fear and 2022’s Sonder.

Keeping his cards close to his chest, he didn't reveal too much about his new music but he did hit it would resemble his early releases to some extent.

He told RTE Entertainment: "I think people will be happy. I’m reluctant to say I’m going back to the beginning because I don’t want to do that because then what’s the point in having the journey I’ve been on?

"You learn certain things and you have to go somewhere to come back from it. I think nowadays as well, one thing that is a downside is that people hear things, and you’re entirely defined by that moment. I think musicians should be allowed to try new things and get out of your comfort zone."

The star continued explaining: "I’ve learnt so much and it puts me in a certain position to make a third album I’m very, very proud or and then a fourth album I’m very proud of."

His announcement came a week after he revealed he was launching a new Irish music and culture festival, Misneach, in Boston and Sydney on St Patrick’s Day next year.

Dermot shared the news of the upcoming events with his Instagram followers and captioned a scenic video with the words: "A new tradition".

The video featured black and white shots of cliffs and footage from his previous arena tours.
