A group of young rappers from Cork and Claire have been put on the longlist for next year's Grammy Awards.

Kabin Crew and Lisdoonvarna Crew released their drum’n’bass-beat viral hit The Spark back in May and have made quite the impact on the music industry.

The Spark was brought to life by Rhyme Island - a youth rap project based at Kabin Studio, a non-profit based in Knocknaheeny in the Cork city's northside - in collaboration with Creative Ireland.

Since releasing their massive hit, the youngsters have received support from the likes of Stormzy, Becky Hill and Tove Lo.

They have performed on stage with Becky when she visited Cork for a show of her own, at Electric Picnic in Laois, at All Together Now in Waterford and to a crowd of 12,000 people at the Pukkelpop festival in Kiewit-Hasselt in Belgium.

Announcing their happy news on Instagram, Kabin Crew's founder and producer Garry McCarthy penned: “What a mad few months this has been.

“A song that we created for the @rhymeisland initiative with the crew of legendary kids and tutors @thekabinstudio and in Lisdoonvarna is long listed for the Grammys.”

Shortlisted nominations will be released in early November with the Grammys taking place in Los Angeles next February.
