A gunman's shot dead at least 19 children and two teachers at a primary school in Texas.
It's believed his first victim was his own grandmother - before he drove to the school, armed with a handgun and an assault rifle.
The 18 year old, identified as Salvador Ramos was shot dead by police.
The city of Uvalde is now the scene of the deadliest primary school shooting since the one at Sandy Hook a decade ago.
President Joe Biden says its time to stand up to the powerful gun lobby.
These kinds of mass shootings rarely happen elsewhere in the world.
Why are we willing to live with this carnage? Why do we keep letting this happen? Where in God’s name is our backbone to have the courage to deal with it?
It’s time to turn this pain into action.— President Biden (@POTUS) May 25, 2022
Gun Control "Not the answer"
Republican Senator Ted Cruz condemned the shooting as horrific.
However he says gun controls are not the way to stop mass shootings.
"We are seeing way too many of these horrific mass murders."
"We need to devote far more law enforcement resources to stopping violent criminals, preventing these absolute acts of evil."
"When Are We Going To Do Something?!"
