It appears that the Government is set to lift the ban on alcohol sales on Good Friday.
Tanaiste Francis Fitzgerald is expected to hint that there will be no major opposition to a new bill, that will be put forward to the Seanad, that is calling on the ban to be abolished.
The ban has been in effect for 90 years in Ireland. It means that is only sold to those at events, on trains, and hotels or in a licensed theater on Good Friday.
The change, however, is more likely to come into effect by Good Friday 2018. It won't just effect pubs, but will mean that off-licences will be open.
The Intoxicating Liquor (Amendment) Bill 2017 is expected to come before the Upper House next week.
