A government official has defended standards in Irish horse slaughter houses.
A BBC Panorama programme revealed thousands of mainly Irish trained horses have been slaughtered in England over the last two years.
So that has lead to animal rights worries here.

But Michael Sheahan from the department of Agriculture says there are not similar issues here.
"We have a full time official Department of Agriculture vet present at all times when a slaughter is taking place."
"I happy to say, we're very satisfied with the practices at the slaughter plants."
