It's been confirmed the 2016 Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Don Cossack has been retired.
The decision was made by his trainer Gordon Elliott and jockey Brian Cooper after the 10 year old suffered a setback in his recovery from a tendon injury he sustained just weeks after winning the Gold Cup last March.
Elliott described the horse as 'once in a lifetime' and said it was agreed that he would retired 'the Don' if he suffered any setback in the fear of him being hurt.
