Many dioceses have gone against the government's stance.
The Archbishop of Dublin is the latest to allow first holy communions and confirmations to go ahead.
It follows six other dioceses in the county that have allowed the ceremonies to continue.
Current public health advice does not allow for them to take place.

Many parents around Dublin have responded positively to the stance by Archbishop Dermot Farrell.
Groups such as schooldays.ie want the government to trust parents more.
"The overall issue doesn't seem to be about the ceremonies themselves, it is the parties after," says Ciara Morgan from the group.
"Our community certainly seems to feel that there's a lack of trust in them."
