Coronavirus scam
An Irishman has been questioned as part of a €15 million euro coronavirus scam involving face masks.
Interpol are involved in the inquiry which involves British, Nigerian, Dutch and Irish bank accounts.
This all began in Germany when health officials there placed an order for 11 million face masks with what they believed was a legitimate Dutch company.
They paid a deposit of €1.5 million for the order into an Irish bank account based in Roscommon.
However, the Dutch’s company’s website and email had been cloned so the order wasn’t real.
The Germans never received the face masks and the scam was revealed.
An international investigation has been launched involving bank accounts in Nigeria, the UK, the Netherlands and Ireland.
It’s led to the arrest of two Dutch men while an Irishman was interviewed in Co Roscommon.
