Nine Internet Service Providers have been ordered to block access to websites that enable users to download or stream movies without permission.
The action was taken by six members of the Motion Picture Association at the Commercial Court in Dublin.
The court heard that illegal downloads posed an extremely serious threat to the industry.
It means people will be unable to access a number of popular websites which allow for streaming or downloading movies.
