Covid-19: 10 Additional Deaths And 1,062 New Cases

The Department of Health has been notified of 10 deaths related to Covid-19 in the past 24 hours.

All of these deaths occurred last month.

The median age of those who died is 79, with the age range between 45 and 101.

Meanwhile, the Department has also been notified of 1,062 new cases of the virus.

506 of today's cases are identified in men while 546 are in women.

Most people -57% - are under 45 years of age.

The median age is 41 years old.

Most of today's cases were identified in Dublin, where there is 335 new cases.

Elsewhere, there are 137 new cases in Cork, 73 in Wexford, 58 in Galway and 54 in Kildare.

The remaining 405 cases are spread across all other counties

Meanwhile, there have been 38 additional hospitalisations in the past twenty-four hours.

In total, there are 1,436 Covid-19 patients in hospitals - 207 of whom are in intensive care.

The five-day moving average of Covid-19 cases in Ireland is 1,288 cases per day.

CMO Warns That Progress Is Slowing

The Chief Medical Officer, Dr Tony Holohan has welcomed the decreasing case numbers but remains concerned.

"I am concerned that it appears to be slowing down at much too high a level of infections,"

He appealed to the public to take care, especially as new variants develop.

"Given the prevalence of the B117 variant, it is extremely important that people take all preventative measures including staying at home."
