There have been 1,845 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Ireland today.
It means the five-day moving average now stands at 2,098 - a slight decrease compared to recent days.
The latest figures from the HSE show there are 497 patients with COVID-19 being treated in Irish hospitals,
The number of patients in ICU has also risen and now stands at 99.
Speaking earlier, infectious diseases specialist Professor Sam McConkey said he expects the current wave of COVID-19 cases will peak and then “settle down” over the next month or two.
He suggested it's now time for any 'late adopters' of the vaccines to get vaccinated, and also noted it’s “inevitable” that everyone who has already been vaccinated will eventually need a booster dose.
