A young woman sleeping rough in Dublin has been spending her nights in a tumble dryer.

The heartbreaking situation was first flagged by Streetlink Homeless Support, who described it as one of the most "degrading things" it's seen.

Posting on Facebook, the organisation said: “Hang your head in shame Darragh O’Brien TD".

The woman, who has not been named, was sleeping in the industrial-sized dryer outside a garage on the capital's northside.

She is now receiving help from Streetlink Homeless Support and the Dublin City Council.

Nearly 12K Homeless In Ireland

As of December 2022, 11,632 people were accessing emergency accommodation in Ireland - including over three thousand children.

Speaking on the issue today, Social Democrat TD Gary Gannon described the situation as a "crisis of unimaginable proportions."

He argues the Government has shown "no stomach for the fight" in tackling the country's homeless crisis.

The Dublin TD warns that despite this being a profoundly sad case, there are many more people finding themselves having to make distressing decisions daily, due to the rising cost of living and the lack of state-funded accommodation.
