The Department of Health has confirmed 21,302 new cases of COVID-19.
884 patients are in hospital with the virus - 90 are in ICU.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan says the current infection levels are having a major impact on essential services across all sectors:
“It is important that all of us continue to support schools, business owners, family and friends to keep to the spirit of public health advice."
"We must continue to restrict our movements to the greatest extent possible.
He continues: "...by limiting the people we interact with from other households if we are to suppress transmission of COVID-19 and sustain our essential services.”
Schools To Re Open
Meanwhile, the Department of Education has confirmed schools will reopen on Thursday
It says the public health advice is that safety measures currently in place are effective and appropriate for the new term.
Minister Norma Foley met with unions earlier to discuss if the reopening should be pushed back.
