There have been proposals to move the port in the past.
Dublin Port have spoke out against using some of its land for housing.
It has written to the Transport Minister rejecting claims from Environment Minster Eamonn Ryan.
He believes they should give up a portion of their land to build houses.

The port have concerns over capacity for ships and goods if they were to build on their site.
Business correspondent Gavin McLoughlin says there has been a lot of opposition.
"The port has kind of consistently opposed these kind of ideas that it be moved," he said.
"There's plenty of land out there that could be used for housing, but there's not plenty of land that's kind of suitable for a port."
