A leading trade union is calling for a national debate on introducing a four-day working week.
Forsa believes advances in technology are making it feasible for workers to have more time off, as they host a conference in Dublin today.
'The Future of Working Time' is the name of the conference, with the four-day week one of the items on the agenda.
As a result of the technological advances, Forsa says productivity in firms that have a shorter week has actually risen.

4-day working week 'ambitious'
Some critics have described the idea in the past as 'ambitious'.
However Forsa spokesperson Joe O'Connor says: "It would have been said 100 years ago that the weekend was an unachieveable ambition."
"This fetishization of working long hours, always being on, that culture has crept into Irish society in recent years."
So, it begs the key question - Monday to Thursday or Tuesday to Friday?
