Fully Charged chat to Ollie and Jamie

SPIN's Fully Charged caught up with DCU students Ollie and Jamie - they're the two lads behind that massive Roger Federer prank.

The boys managed to convince the nation that the Wimbledon star wanted to come to Ireland to play a charity match against them.

What happened?

Before we get to the interview, here's what happened:

The 21-year-olds tagged Roger in a video of them playing a tennis match on Instagram Stories.

It wasn't long before he replied, 'Great skills - would love to come and play you guys after lockdown.'

The boys shared a screen recording of a voice message they sent Roger asking him to come to Ireland for a match.

They later shared a voice message response they received from the tennis player, "I loved the video, I thought it was great," he began.

"I think we should definitely do something with my charity. Send an email to my agent and we'll sort something out."

Ollie posted the exchange on Instagram, and their story went viral over night.

Publications across the country picked it up and the lads even appeared in a number of radio interviews.

Last night, they came clean and announced it was all a prank.

The lads chat to Fully Charged

Ollie and Jamie told SPIN's Fully Charged with Graham and Nathan that they're happy people are taking it so well.

They admitted they were a bit worried the nation would be angry with them.

Nathan asked the lads to explain how they managed to pull it off.

Jamie said they were playing a tennis match one day, and Ollie said, "Imagine if Roger Federer actually replied to our text."

The student explained that himself and Ollie are both studying Multimedia in DCU.

So they used the idea as an opportunity to study photoshop and video editing.

Jamie explained, "I said, "Well, we can just make that happen.""

"A little magic on photoshop, and literally, it didn't even take us five minutes and we had this text made up."

"And we put it to our story and literally our DMs... people messaging us like, 'Oh my God this is unbelievable.'"

So they decided to take it one step further - they contacted a Roger Federer impersonator on Instagram.

They asked him to impersonate the tennis player in voice messages for them, and he did.

"Literally two seconds later, he text us back and he was more than happy to do it," Jamie said.

The boys laughed as they revealed their lecturers in multimedia retweeted the story.

"One of them was a Press & PR lecturer, and he did a whole module on fake news," Ollie laughed.
