Limerick County and City Councils are accepting name suggestions for their new gritting vehicles.
The most "weird, wacky and wonderful" names suggested will be chosen for the five new specialised vehicles.
A number of UK councils have been naming their winter machines in recent years.
Some winning names including "Gritney Spears", "Brad Gritt" and "Gritsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Anti-Slip Machine-y".
The public will vote on a shortlist of names to decide the winner.
The minds behind the winning names will bag a €100 voucher for a Limerick restaurant.
Head of Marketing at LCC Laura Ryan said "Limerick is known for its creativity and its grit."
She says this competition will test just that.
The council hope this week's cold snap will inspire to people to come up with a creative name.
