The study was carried out by Safefood.
Parents are being urged to limit the number of sweet treats they give their children.
It comes as research showed that Irish families spent an average of 160 euro each on treats last month.
New research from Safefood shows the spending on the likes of chocolate, sweets and crisps has increased.
That's in comparison to a similar survey conducted before the pandemic.

Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist, Coleman Noctor, says during lockdown many people resorted to treats out of boredom.
However he says it's a crucial health issue and parents needs to act.
"It is difficult initially but it gets easier," he says. "Parents need to, again, take control of what's in the cupboard."
"Work within your own limits, gradually build towards using less treats."
