The figures come from the Commission for Energy Regulation.
The number of households switching energy suppliers has seen a huge surge recently.
It comes in wake of price hikes for electricity, gas and fuel as a result of inflation.
The Commission for Energy Regulation figures shows that 40,575 thousand houses switched providers in March.
That's an increase of almost 14 thousand on those that switched in 2021.

Meanwhile, a leading economist is warning that food price inflation could be our biggest problem.
Figures from the CSO showed prices rose by 7 per cent in the year to April.
It's the highest annual increase in 22 years and only adds to increases in prices in other sectors.
Economist Jim Power says the government will be under pressure to respond.
