The Funeral Of Jack Charlton Has Taken Place In Newcastle Today

The funeral of Jack Charlton has taken place in Northumberland in Newcastle this afternoon.

The former Republic of Ireland boss who took us to the world cup quarter finals in 1990 passed away last week aged 85.

Crowds lined the streets of of Ashington this morning to pay tribute to Jack Charlton as his funeral cortege passed through his hometown.

Here at home Jack Charlton is considered a legend for taking the Republic of Ireland to the quarter finals of Italia 90.

When Ireland beat Romania to make it through, hundreds of people converged on the Walkinstown roundabout to celebrate the win - becoming one of Ireland's most iconic World cup Moments.

A socially distant group has gathered there this afternoon to pay tribute.

At 12.30pm this afternoon, every radio station played the theme tune Italia 90, 'put em under pressure' to coincide with the funeral and honour to Big Jack.

Irish fans are being asked to wear green and to make a donation if they wish to the Irish Cancer Society or the Alzheimer society of Ireland in Jack Charlton's memory.
