Luas operator Transdev has released cctv footage of near misses between trams and cyclists.
They're launching their #BeTramAware campaign which aims to highlight how close cyclists can come to being seriously injured when breaking red lights.
Transdev say drivers often see cyclists taking a gamble at red light, forcing them to suddenly apply the emergency brake. This sometimes can delay the whole service.
The videos show a man swerving close to a moving luas and another man running in front of a tram carrying a bike.
“Whilst Luas can assure customers how safe the system is to travel on, we must also shine a light on the actions of these gambler cyclists", says Dervla Brophy, Communications Manager of Transdev.
"We must reduce the number of emergency brakes the trams are forced to make because of reckless cyclist behaviour”.
